Minnesota finds itself on yet another top ten list. This time, it revolves around commercial property. The U.S. Green Building Council recently released it’s list of states with the most green buildings and institutional properties on per capita basis, based on 2010 U.S. census data.

Minnesota had 9,591,445 of square feet to earn LEED certification in 2011 which comes out 1.81 sq ft per person. California was tops with over 71 million square feet gain LEED status. Colorado led the way with 2.74 sq ft per person as a state and the District of Columbia led all with 31.50.

Currently, there are 155 projects in Minnesota that have gained some sort of status of LEED according to the USBGC Certified Project Directory. As far as cities go, Minneapolis leads the way with 35 LEED certified projects.

Minneapolis has a wide variety of office towers that have been LEED certified.

We even have a LEED certified baseball park with Target Field which is only the 2nd one in the nation. I’m sure when the Vikings get their new stadium, it will also encompass LEED standards into the build.
